Commercial Internet Service: Common FAQs

Internet services have totally evolved from the days of dial-up. Internet is far faster, far more reliable, and far more available all over the country. Business owners now rely on the internet more than ever, and there are plenty of options out there to choose from. Take a quick look at some of the typical questions associated with commercial internet services and the answers you may want to know.

What are the primary differences between commercial and residential internet?

There can be several differences in commercial and residential internet, and these differences are usually worth the extra price for business owners and those seeking certain advantages with the service provided. Primarily, the internet will be delivered at faster speeds and the consumer will be allocated more space for incoming and outgoing signals with the service. This means that a commercial business will have more bandwidth available than a residential customer. Another major difference is that the internet may be provided in an unlimited way; it will not be capped when so much data is used. Most residential service providers do have data limits, which is not logical for business owners.

Can you get commercial internet as a residential customer?

You don't necessarily have to have a business in order to get commercial internet; you can likely get this internet as a regular customer as well. Most providers will be happy to offer their services to you as long as you are willing to pay for the necessary equipment and higher service charges. For some residential customers who have higher-than-usual internet needs, paying for commercial service is a logical thing to do because it gives them things like faster speeds, no caps on usage, and faster access to service calls when something goes wrong.

What is the average price for commercial internet service?

The average cost of commercial internet will vary depending on the type of internet provided. You may have access to DSL, T1 broadband, or T3 broadband. DSL will be about $50 to $250 per month. T1 broadband may be as much as $300 to $1,000 per month, and T3 (the fastest internet available) can cost $750 to $3,000 monthly. Business owners who have major traffic volumes will need the higher T3 broadband speeds to accommodate all the traffic. However, a residential customer who is just looking for business internet for uncapped data, faster speeds, etc. will probably be perfectly content with DSL.
